Throwback to Puneri Paltan's Journey in Pro Kabaddi League ahead of Season 10

Puneri Paltan fell short by just 5 points from winning the Pro Kabaddi League title last season in the final against eventual champions Jaipur Pink Panthers who lifted their 2nd PKL title and first since Season 1.

Paltan were then captained by Iran's Fazel Atrachali who is now all set to be without the runners-up of PKL 9 after Gujarat Giants bought him back for a record price of 1.60 Crore.

While many thought that might prove to be a blow, Puneri Paltan replaced Fazel with his Irani team mate, Mohammadreza Shadloui who became the most expensive foreigner of Pro Kabaddi history for INR 2.35 Crores.

And around Shadloui, Puneri have accumulated some team for the landmark edition, filled with Young and promising players who are ready to help the team in landing their maiden PKL title.
But before we find that out, let's take a brief look into how they have performed in each PKL seasons.

Season 1: Puneri Paltan had a season to forget in the maiden Pro Kabaddi season as they finished at the bottom 4 of an Eight team tournament. Out of the 14 league matches, Puneri only won Twice and tasted 12 defeats to finish with just 17 points.

Season 2: The story remained pretty much the same in PKL season 2 as they again finished last, this time winning Twice and losing 11 times with 1 Tie to finish with 21 points.

Season 3: Paltan's fate experienced a change in the 3rd season of Pro Kabaddi League when they finished below U Mumba and Patna Pirates in the 3rd position. They registered 7 wins, 4 losses and 3 draws to finish with 48 points. Unfortunately, their season ended with a 40-21 loss against Patna Pirates in Semi-final 1.

Season 4: The 4th PKL edition was held just 2 months after the 3rd and Puneri Paltan were one of the 2 teams that reached back-to-back play offs. They were lucky to reach the top 4, edging past U Mumba with same points - 42, thanks to a positive score difference.

However, Puneri Paltan had a similar fate as season 3 when they yet again lost to Patna Pirates in the semi-final by 37-33 and finished 3rd overall in the league after beating Telegu Titans in the 3/4 place match.

Season 5: The competition in PKL increased from the 5th season, following the arrival of 4 new teams. 6 teams were divided into Groups of A and B with Puneri Paltan finishing below Gujarat Giants in 2nd of Group A.

They reached the play-offs, won the first eliminator against UP Yoddhas by 42-32 but unfortunately they again met Patna Pirates in Eliminator 3 and the script was similar - Patna Pirates completed the hat-trick by beating Puneri in each of the knockouts before Final.

Season 6: Despite scoring 52 points, Puneri Paltan finished in 4th of Group A in Pro Kabaddi League season 6 with 12 losses, 8 wins and 2 draws.

Season 7: Puneri Paltan finished 10th in Season 7 with 48 points including 12 losses, 7 wins and 3 draws.

Season 8: Puneri sealed their 4th Play-offs appearance in season 8 all because they had 2 points more than Haryana Steelers in the 6th spot. But all of Puneri's hardwork were totaled by UP Yoddhas in an one sided match which finished in 42-31.

Season 9: Puneri Paltan's best season ever came in 2022 during the 9th edition of Pro Kabaddi League. Led by Fazel Atrachali, the team looked solid in both raiding and defense. Aslam Inamdar was running the show in offense. They finished 2nd in the points table with 80 points in 22 matches. However, they lost the finale by 33-29 against Jaipur Pink Panthers.
