Ashu Malik’s brilliant ‘century’, Delhi defeat U Mumba by 21 points to reclaim the No. 1 spot
Riding on skipper Ashu Malik’s record-breaking show (23 points), Dabang Delhi thrashed U Mumba in a one-sided affair with a scoreline of 47-26 in the 50th match of Season 12 of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL), played at the Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium on Thursday.
For Dabang Delhi, captain Ashu Malik produced a record performance, securing the highest 23 points. Alongside him, Neeraj Narwal added seven points and Fazel Atrachali contributed four. On the other hand, Sandeep Kumar was the only shining performer for U Mumba, collecting 11 points.
This was Delhi’s seventh win in eight matches, helping them climb back to the top of the points table with 14 points. U Mumba, meanwhile, suffered their fifth defeat in nine games.
The contest started evenly as both Ashu Malik for Delhi and Sandeep Kumar for U Mumba kept scoring. The teams were tied 4-4 after the opening five minutes. U Mumba, with Sandeep’s raids and a bonus, pulled ahead by three points. However, Neeraj Narwal’s super raid cut the gap, and at the 10-minute mark, U Mumba led just 9-7.
Ashu Malik’s consistent scoring kept Delhi afloat, and by the 15th minute, the match was locked at 12-12. U Mumba responded with a super tackle, taking a two-point lead, but Ashu turned the tables by inflicting an all-out, giving Delhi a 19-17 lead at halftime. Ashu also completed his sixth Super-10 of the season in this half.
At the start of the second half, Fazel Atrachali and Surjeet tightened Delhi’s defense. In the 24th minute, Ashu Malik pulled off another super raid, inflicting a second all-out on U Mumba and extending Delhi’s lead to 28-18.
By the 30th minute, Ashu achieved a milestone of 100 raid points this season. Delhi inflicted a third all-out on U Mumba, stretching the lead to 37-19, with Ashu already on 18 points.
In the final 10 minutes, Delhi’s dominance grew. By the 33rd minute, they had built a massive 20-point lead (41-21). In the 36th minute, Ashu executed another super raid, taking his match tally to 23 points. From there, Delhi maintained their stronghold and sealed a 47-26 comprehensive victory.
