PKL-12: Delhi Defeats Haryana in Tiebreaker Thanks to Fazal and Surjeet

In the 70th match of the 12th season of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Tuesday, Dabang Delhi KC defeated Haryana Steelers 9-3 in a tiebreaker. The score was tied at 33-33 at the end of regular time. In the tiebreaker, Surjeet made two crucial tackles for Delhi, and Fazal Atrachali, playing his 200th match, sealed the victory with a super raid.

This was Delhi’s 11th win in 12 matches and their fourth consecutive victory, while Haryana suffered their sixth defeat in 12 matches, marking their fourth consecutive loss. With this win, Delhi strengthened their position on the points table with 22 points.

In the first raid of the tiebreaker, Vishal came for Haryana, but Surjeet caught him. Neeraj then gave Delhi a 2-0 lead. Ashish reduced it to 1-2, and Ajinkya extended Delhi’s lead to 3-1. On Haryana’s next raid, Jaydeep came but was caught by Surjeet, making it 4-1. Fazal then came on a raid for Delhi and secured the win with a super raid. After that, the remainder of the match was just a formality.

As expected, in the first 10 minutes of this high-stakes game, Haryana led 9-7. They held a two-point lead toward the end of the quarter, but Ashu leveled the score to 7-7 with a multi-pointer. During this period, Haryana’s defense successfully caught Ashu three times.

After the break, Saurav made a super tackle on Vinay to level the score. Neeraj helped Delhi escape a super tackle situation, but Jaydeep caught him on the next raid. Meanwhile, Shivam pushed Delhi toward an all-out and completed it, giving them a 16-12 lead.

Haryana’s defense was impressive, soon increasing their lead to five points. However, at a crucial moment, Saurav caught Shivam. Ajinkya, just before halftime, scored a super raid, leveling the score at 17-18 and putting Haryana in a super tackle situation. Haryana capitalized on it, catching Neeraj and gaining a three-point lead.

Haryana cleverly not only avoided an all-out but also extended their lead to four points. Ajinkya brought them back to the brink of an all-out, and Delhi finally completed it, narrowing the score to 23-24. During this, Saurav completed a High-5. By the end of 30 minutes, both teams were tied at 27-27.

Haryana then took a two-point lead through raids and defense. Shivam caught an opponent to make it 30-27. On the next raid, Surjeet caught him. Neeraj and Ajinkya reduced the gap to one point. Delhi then caught Vinay to make it 31-31. Haryana had a super tackle opportunity.

In the next raid, Ashish caught Fazal and gave Haryana the lead. Then, captain Jaydeep caught Ajinkya to make it 33-31 with one minute remaining. Neeraj scored a successful raid to make it 32-33, and Fazal caught Ashish, taking the match to a tiebreaker.
