PKL 10: Can U Mumba stay in the top six and stage a comeback this season?

The runners-up of the inaugural season of the PKL and the winners of the second season, U Mumba, have not been one of the top teams this season. Out of the fourteen matches, they have won six, lost six, and two matches have ended in a tie. The U Mumba have 40 points on the board and are in the sixth position with a positive score difference of six.

For the Mumbai team, their campaign started with a win against the U.P. Yoddhas and then two straight losses against the Gujarat Giants and the Puneri Paltan. The loss against the Paltan was by 11 points, which affected them a lot in terms of score difference.

After their three matches, the U Mumba team suddenly played like a champion team and won five matches on the trot. All the victories were sensational, where each and every player contributed his part and ensured that the team had 25 consecutive points in the table standings.

It all began with a two-point victory against the Patna Pirates, then a huge 13-point win against the Tamil Thalaivas, a two-point close-fought victory against the Bengal Warriors, then a hammering of the Telugu Titans by 18 points where the Mumbai players were on song, and the last win came against the Bengaluru Bulls by five points.

The team from the western part of India lost two matches after that against the Jaipur Pink Panthers and the Dabang Delhi, both of whom have been the top teams this season. Their next match against the Haryana Steelers ended in a 44-44 tie, which was a treat for the Kabaddi fans.

After that, U Mumba lost their reverse fixtures against the Jaipur Pink Panthers and the Dabang Delhi once again, affecting their season a lot. Their most recent fixture ended in a tie against the best team of the season yet, Puneri Paltan.

The Mumbai franchise has not won a single match after their eighth league match and needs a victory soon to continue being in the race for the playoffs. Their consecutive victories early on in the tournament have helped them stay in the battle.

Guman Singh, with 128 points in fourteen matches, is the team’s leading raider, with the highest points, followed by Amirmohammad Zafardanesh. The defense has disappointed a little this season, as the top defender this season for them is Rinku, who has only 28 points to his name in the league.
