Indian men's Kabaddi team defeat Sri Lanka in opening match of South Asian Games 2019

The Indian Men's Kabaddi Team started off their campaign at the 2019 South Asian Games with a thumping win over Sri Lanka. The Indian team thrashed their neighbours 49-16 in the opening match of the second day of Kabaddi action at APF Hallchowk, Kathmandu.

The revamped Indian team had Deepak Niwas Hooda leading the team with Amit Hooda and Vishal Bharadwaj in the corners and Sunil Kumar and Parvesh Bhainswal playing as covers. Pawan Sehrawat and Naveen Kumar led the raiding department for the Indian team. 

After a surprising win over Pakistan, the Sri Lankan Kabaddi team was much more confident as they entered the mat against India. However, Pawan and Naveen started off the match to help India take a huge lead against the opponents. At Half-time, the Indian team led 25-9. The second half saw Indian team substitute Nitesh Kumar and Darshan Kadian, with the later picking up quick points for the team. Aiming for their 10th gold medal at the South Asian Games, India registered an easy win with a lead of 33 points in their opening bout.

The second men's kabaddi match saw Pakistan win against Bangladesh 37-21 to register their first win of the tournament. They had faced a defeat against Sri Lanka in a closely fought match yesterday.

In their next match, the Indian Kabaddi team will face their arch-rivals Pakistan on 6th December 2019.

South Asian Games 2019 Women's Kabaddi Results

 

The Indian women's kabaddi team continued their dominant performance at the 2019 South Asian Games as they thrashed 47-16 win over Bangladesh. It was their second win of the tournament after defeating Sri Lanka 53-14 yesterday. They have consolidated their place in the finals and have one preliminary game remaining. They will face home team Nepal in the last match on 6th December.
