Born on 19th January 1988 in Ghodegaon village in Maharashtra, Vikas Kale was a full-on cricket fanatic as a child. As a child, Vikas was never interested in Kabaddi, but he is one of those players whose life has turned around because of the PKL. While he was in school, Vikas used to watch his seniors and friends practice Kabaddi in the school ground.

The more he watched the game, the more it became interesting for him. He started playing Kabaddi when he was eleven years old. The togetherness Kabaddi brought to him through his friends made him fall in love with the sport, but this didn't last very long. His parents strongly opposed Kabaddi and insisted him to focus on his studies. Kabaddi was more than a game to Vikas, it was a way, to vent out the frustrations of the hardships in his home.

Once he finished high school, Vikas started training Kabaddi regularly under coach Rajendra Bansare, who took him under his wing. His parents advised him to take up Cricket as it had much better pay compared to Kabaddi. Vikas convinced his parents how the game was getting better recognition around the country. He started to take various jobs around his area, including, delivering gas cylinders, for the extra income.
