Why Bengal Warriors better than Pawan Sehrawat or Naveen Kumar | Most Valuable Players of Pro Kabaddi League PKL7 | Top 6 Teams

We took a deep dive into kabaddi stats to find the most valuable players for every team. Going forward into PKL8, some of these players will be retained. Whom best to retain? Here we look at teams which did brilliantly well in PKL7 to make it to the playoffs.

Know more about Effective Points* below.

Also, check out MVP's from teams that did not make it to playoffs

No Questions Asked! Pawan Kumar Sehrawat is the MVP for Bengaluru Bulls

A one man army. Pawan knows it, Randhir knows it. The goal of the Bulls defense in every raid was to bring Pawan back. But they were unfortunately not very good at it! Pawan Kumar Sehrawat scored the most raid points in PKL7 and most effective raid points in PKL7. In an outrageous game against Haryana Steelers, Pawan went for 38 out of 41 Bulls raids and scored an unbelievable 41 points (including 2 step out points). Bulls will face the same fate as Patna Pirates in PKL6 and PKL7 if they continue like this!

Vikas Kandola from Haryana Steelers

Every time Vikas Kandola scored a Super-10, Haryana cruised home. This young raider who is known to take out 2-3 defenders with his quick momemtum shifts is MVP for Haryana Steelers. But what really worked for Haryana Steelers was also the brilliant support from NYP Vinay and Karnataka veteran Prashanth Kumar Rai.

Abhishek Singh is MVP for U Mumba, but defense has contributed strongly

Abhishek Singh not just MVP, also most value for money player for U Mumba
Abhishek Singh not just MVP, also most value for money player for U Mumba

Dark horses Abhishek Singh and Arjun Deshwal were definitely the most value for money players this season. And Abhishek Singh proved to be the MVP for U Mumba, according to us. Fazel Athrachali, Sandeep Narwal and Surinder Singh have contributed strongly - the only defense other than Bengal Warriors and Dabang Delhi to have contributed strongly.

Shrikant Jadhav from UP Yoddha

Shrikant Jadhav delivered when it mattered and UP Yoddhas got the best out of their raiders without over utilising them - a feat indeed! Shrikant Jadhav often went for just 12-15 raids and scored 8-10 points - continuing to impress everybody as one of the best do-or-die raiders. Shrikant Jadhav is MVP for UP Yoddha.

Naveen Kumar from Dabang Delhi

Naveen Kumar really impressed by scoring a Super-10 in virtually all matches of PKL7. He was easily the MVP for not just Dabang Delhi but also for PKL7 as a whole. But what made finalists Dabang Delhi a force to reckon with, were also their cover defenders Anil Kumar and Vishal Mane. Captain Joginder and left raider Chandran Ranjith supported ably. Right corner Ravinder Pahal did not make it to the top 5 effective players for Dabang Delhi.

Maninder Singh from Bengal Warriors

Maninder Singh led the way beautifully for Bengal Warriors - he is the MVP although he was injured and could not raid in the playoffs. But what makes Bengal Warriors truly unique are the strong contributions by all-rounders Prapanjan and Iranian Nabibaksh. Both of these players contributed as much or more than the MVPs for many other teams. Even when Maninder Singh was not in the team, veteran Sukesh Hegde stood tall. No doubt Bengal Warriors are deservedly Champions of PKL7.

Effective Points Scored by a Player

For Raiders we used,

Effective Raid Points = Points Scored for Team - Points given to Opposition

The role of a defender is to bring the raider back to mat. For Defenders we used,

Effective Tackle Points = Points Scored for Team x (Team Raid Points / Team Tackle Points) - Points given to Opposition

Total effectiveness of the player is the sum of Effective Raid Points and Effective Tackle Points.
