3. Neeraj (Patna Pirates)

Neeraj was amongst the successful defenders for Patna Pirates this season. Playing at right corner for the team, Neeraj had a good season for Patna, playing an important role in the defensive unit. Through his spectacular performances, Neeraj also helped Patna Pirates in terms of the qualification race, as the team sailed through in the league stage on the 1st position. In his 23 appearances for the Patna Pirates, Neeraj made a total of 122 tackles, scoring 53 tackle points, along with an average success assists of 27%. Neeraj also spent an average of 82.28% on the mat, with an average out rate of 49.25%, proving to be one of the standout performers for the team this season. 


2. Surjeet (Tamil Thalaivas)

Surjeet was one of the key defender for the Tamil Thalaivas this season. The experienced defender was bought by Thalaivas for 75 lakhs in the auction. Along with Sagar, Surjeet was the other player in the defense that played a key role for the team. The pair produced some wonderful performances, making a solid defensive unit as the season progressed. Courtesy of these performances, Tamil Thalaivas beacame more dependent on their defensive unit for winning the games. In his 20 appearances of PKL this season, Surjeet made a total of 100 tackles, scoring 52 tackle points for the Thalaivas. Surjeet also spent an impressive average time of 83.51% on the mat, implying the importance that he posssesed in the unit. 


1. Sombir (Puneri Paltan)

Bought by the Puneri Paltan for 34.5 lakhs, Sombir proved to be quite effective in the defensive unit for the team. Puneri Paltan made a great comeback in the 2nd half of the tournament on the virtue of its strong defense, and Sombir was one of the players who excelled really well for the team. Sombir managed to make 112 tackles, scoring a total of 60 tackle points. With an average time of 77.82% on the mat, coupled with an average out rate of 48.62%, Sombir helped Puneri Paltan in qualifying for the playoffs this season.
