Pro Kabaddi League 2023: Fazel Atrachali Named Captain for Gujarat Giants in PKL Season 10
In anticipation of the much-awaited 10th season of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL 10), the Adani Sportsline-owned Gujarat Giants have appointed the experienced Fazel Atrachali as their captain. The announcement comes as the team gears up to compete in the upcoming PKL season, set to kick off in Ahmedabad. Atrachali's leadership role is complemented by vice-captain Rohit Gulia, under the guidance of coach Ram Mehar Singh.
Having reached the finals in 2017 and 2018, the Gujarat Giants aspire to clinch the coveted PKL title this season. Fazel Atrachali, who was part of the Giants' squad in the 2017 campaign, brings a wealth of experience as a two-time PKL winner and a three-time Asian Games medallist. The 31-year-old defender aims to leverage his extensive experience to lead the Giants to success in the upcoming season.
Coach Ram Mehar Singh expressed confidence in Atrachali's leadership, stating, "In PKL season 10, among all the players, Fazel is one of the most decorated players, and he has won a lot of medals in his career. I have worked with Fazel before, and he is a great player, and in our mind, he was our clear choice for the captaincy for Adani’s Gujarat Giants."
The team boasts a promising lineup, with players like Rakesh, Parteek Dahiya, Rohit Gulia, Sourav Gulia, Vikash Jaglan, Arkam Shaikh, GB More, and the Iranian all-rounder Mohammad Esmaeil Nabibakhsh. The combination of talent and experience positions the Gujarat Giants as strong contenders in the upcoming PKL season.
Fazel Atrachali, in a statement, expressed his delight at leading the Gujarat Giants. "Gujarat Giants is a very big team, and it is my pleasure to be back in the team. I am delighted to be leading the team, and in the squad, we have a lot of youngsters. I know we all work well together, and as a captain, that makes my job easier. And I am happy about how things are shaping up," he remarked.
The Gujarat Giants will commence their PKL 10 campaign on December 2nd with a match against Telegu Titans, marking the opening day of the tournament. All the matches in Ahmedabad will take place at The TransStadia. The 10th season of the Pro Kabaddi League heralds the return to the caravan format after a hiatus of three years.
