The second day of the 69th All India Inter Railway Tournament came to an end after the scheduled eight matches being played at Gorakhpur's Syed Modi Railway Stadium. With a total of 17 matches being played across two days, most of the teams have finalized their place in the quarterfinals, slated to take place tomorrow.
South Central Railway won both of their games today to top Group A with three wins in three matches and have moved to the next round. They defeated Rail Wheel Factory 43-17 in the first match of the day. Their second win of the day came in a tightly fought contest against Integral Coach Factory, where the defending champions won 41-38. Monu was the top scorer with 10 raid points and two tackle points for them against Rail Wheel Factory, while Mallikarjun picked up seven raid points.
In the second match, Selvamani K led the attack with 11 raid points, aptly supported by Monu with six points. Skipper Dharmaraj Cheralath picked up four tackle points in this match. The second team to qualify for the quarterfinals from Group A will be decided tomorrow after Integral Coach Factory will face South East Central Railway.
The home team of North Eastern Railways got two wins in the Group C matches to seal a quarterfinals place. They won 36-23 against East Central Railway and 40-26 against the Western Railways. Their star raider Rohit Gulia amassed 17 points against the Western Railways and seven points against East Central. Amongst the defenders, Srikanth Tewthia got a High 5 against East Central Railway as he went on to pick six tackle points in eight attempts.
A total of four matches are scheduled to be played tomorrow, which will then be followed by the quarterfinals. The semifinals and the finals will be played on Sunday, 22nd December 2019.
