Senior National Kabaddi 2020: Pardeep Narwal's Haryana handed shocking loss by Tamil Nadu

The 67th Senior National Kabaddi Championships witness an upset on the very first day of the tournament. Having begun on 2nd of March 2020 at Jaipur's Poornima University, the Senior National Kabaddi 2020 saw star-studded Haryana men's team going down against Tamil Nadu men's team. Incidentally, it was also the first match to be played at the tournament. 

It was a poor show from the Haryana men's team which has top Indian Kabaddi players like Sandeep Narwal, Rakesh Narwal, Pardeep Narwal, and Amit Hooda. They lost the match 31-37 after having an early lead into the match.

The match started with Sandeep Narwal tackling G Mohan Raman and picking up the first points of the match for his team. Pardeep then picked up a bonus to get the second point. However, a two-point raid from Ram Kumar sent Sandeep Narwal and Vishal out on the bench as Tamil Nadu also picked up two points. It was a neck to neck battle for a while with both teams scoring points. 

In the seventh minute, Amit Sheoran tackled Ram Kumar which was followed by Rakesh Narwal picking up two tough points in his very next raid. Soon, Haryana inflicted the first all-out of the match as they took a lead of 12-5 in the ninth minute. Tamil Nadu then fought back and made their way near to the points of Haryana. 

Ram Kumar got support from Ajith Kumar and Mohan Raman as Tamil Nadu also sent all the Haryana players on the bench and took a 16-15 lead with five minutes remaining into the first half. In the 25th minute of the match, M. Abishek performed a Super Tackle on Pardeep as Haryana tried to close down the points gap. Pardeep was yet again tackled by E Subash when the scores were tied at 22-22.

As the game went on, Abishek picked up a High 5 when he tackled Pardeep for the second time in the second half. With five minutes for the game to finish, Sajin tackled Amit Sheoran to inflict second all-out on Haryana and extend their lead to 34-27. Ram Kumar then picked up back to back raid points and kept extending the lead for Tamil Nadu.

Even as Pardeep and Sandeep tried to get Haryana back into the game, it was too late for them with the final whistle blowing at the score of 37-31 in favor of Tamil Nadu. Ram Kumar was the highest scorer of the match with nine points. Apart from Abishek, E Subash also picked up a High 5 in the match.
