67th Senior Nationals Kabaddi: Maharashtra men and women's teams announced

The Maharashtra State Kabaddi Association has announced a 12-player squad for the upcoming Senior National Kabaddi Championships 2020. The tournament is all set to take place in the city of Jaipur from 2nd to the 6th of March 2020. Maharashtra will be one of the 31 teams in the men's category to be participating in the tournament. They had won the tournament in 2018 after a gap of 11 years.

Unlike last year, this year the team is comprised of mostly young players. Seasoned players like Rishank Devadiga, Vishal Mane, Girish Maruti Ernak, Nilesh Salunke, and Vikas Kale have all been dropped from the team this year. Only three players from last year's edition have found a place this year as well.

Pankaj Mohite will be seen back into the team this year. He has had an amazing Pro Kabaddi outing with the Puneri Paltan team. Having made his debut at the Pro Kabaddi 2019, Mohite went on to score a total of 113 points (113 raid points, 3 tackle points) in the 16 matches. He also scored 17 points in a match in the season, one of his top performances for the team. He will be a prime player for Maharashtra at the Senior Nationals.

The other two players who have retained their places in the men's team are Ajinkya Pawar and Tushar Patil. Pawar was a part of Jaipur Pink Panthers in the PKL 2019 and scored 19 raid points from 14 matches. The duo will be joining Mohite to handle the raiding department for Maharashtra.

After an impressive performance on his debut PKL with the Puneri Paltan, Sushant Sail has also been given a place in the team. He is joined by his fellow Mumbai player Sanket Sawant. Having performed well at the Senior State Maharashtra Kabaddi Championship & Dr. D.Y. Patil Memorial Trophy, Dabang Delhi K.C.'s Swapnil Shinde and Puneri Paltan's Shubham Shinde have made a place in the senior team for the state.

It will be the first outing with the senior team for debutants Rohit Bane and Maharudra Garje as they join Bipin Thale to play at Jaipur. After representing the winning team at the Pune District Championships 2019, Manoj Bondre has also found a place in the Maharashtra team. Air India's Akash Kadam will also be a part of the team traveling to Jaipur.
