Thakur was one of the 40 sportspersons that the PM spoke to about the measures to contain the spread of the corona virus pandemic. After his talks with the PM, Thakur urged the fans to strictly follow the lockdown in a video posted on Instagram.

Working as a DSP in the Himachal Pradesh Police, Thakur has been patrolling the streets of Bilaspur. Ajay has been actively spreading awareness about the pandemic that has brought the country to halt and urging people to stay safe and take care of themselves.

Thakur briefed the PM about the work that is being done in his district. He said, "We have been continuously following the orders of the Ministry of Health and the whole Kabaddi family is involved in spreading the awareness of the situation to the fans and the people of the country. In Bilaspur, the police department is making people aware of social distancing and how to practice it." Talking about the problems being faced by the department, Thakur sheds light on how the daily wage laborers should be taken care of and make sure that they are also getting proper information about the pandemic.
