Looking back at Surender Gill's Successful All India Inter-University Campaign

Surender Gill was seen in action during the All India Inter-University Kabaddi Championships 2019 which was held in December last year at the Mangalore University campus in Udupi, Karnataka. The MYP for UP Yoddha in season 7 of the Pro Kabaddi league where he stamped his authority represented MD University, Rohtak who went on to win the All India Inter-University Kabaddi Championship 2019. Surender Gill had a tournament to remember where he scored 46 raid points in just 58 raids and not just raiding but also was seen putting some good tackles where he scored 11 tackle points in 11 tackle attempts. Gill's all-round performance was one of the key reasons why MD University did so well in the tournament.

Surender Gill started the tournament in an impactful manner where MD University locked horns against Shivaji University, Gill managed to score 11 points in that game where he was looking sharp and agile, 11 points included 9 raid points out of 15 raids and 2 tackle points out of 2 tackles attempted to give MD University an important win with scores reading 46-29. Moving ahead in the last match of the league stages against Mithila University, Gill was seen in good form where he managed to score 8 raid points in 7 raids he went for, this again was a high impact performance which helped MD university get an easy win with scores of 48-11 which made sure MD University were unbeaten in the league stages as they topped their zone to make it to the Quarter-finals of the tournament.

As the tournament went into the knockouts, Gill was looking in great touch in both raiding and defense. In the Quarter-final encounter against University of Kota, Gill scored 7 important points in total which included 4 raid points of out of 3 raids and 3 tackle points of 3 tackles attempted. This all-round performance ensured MD university get the better of University of Kota with scores of 54-20. In the semi-final clash against the home team Mangalore University where the crowd was going bonkers every time Mangalore University got a point, Gill remained cool and calm absorbing all the pressure to pull off a stellar performance where he scored a total of 14 points in the game which included 11 raid points and 3 tackle points to take MD University into the finals of the tournament with the score reading 45-29. Gill continued his good form going into the all-important finals where MD University was up against GND University, Gill again pulled out a high impactful performance by scoring seven raid points out of nine raids attempted along with good performances from his team mates Ashish and Vinay helped MD University win the finals with scores of 47-28 and emerged as champions in the tournament.  

Overall Surender Gill had an incredible outing and was seen at his best during the All India Inter-University Kabaddi Championships and it will be interesting to see if he can take this form forward into the Pro Kabaddi League Season 8 where he will be seen in action again for Up Yoddha.
